Back when we didn’t know better – when electricity prices were also way more affordable – energy efficiency wasn’t much of an issue. Today, though, with higher electricity rates and a heightened awareness of the rapid depletion of the planet’s natural resources, homeowners are much more energy conscious.
Based on the latest Emerging Trends in the Remodeling Market study from the Joint Center for Housing Studies, 84% of contractors have reported installing energy-efficient projects. In fact, 20% of households reporting home improvement spending in 2012 or 2013 in the American Housing Survey have at least worked on one energy efficiency project. Furthermore, a vast cross-section of homeowners prioritized these kinds of projects over other home upgrades.
